RN to BSN Programs in Maine

Many nurses in Maine are choosing RN to BSN programs to broaden their skills and take advantage of Maine's abundant employment opportunities. By 2014, employment of Maine RNs is expected to reach 16,613, up from 14,410 in 2009. Maine RNs make a median annual salary of $65,240 and bring home an average hourly wage of $31.37. The Maine State Board of Nursing maintains a list of approved RN programs, offered in cities throughout the state, such as Portland, Augusta, and Bangor. In 2006, 1533 students were enrolled in a bachelor's of nursing program, 378 of whom were in Maine RN to BSN programs. Nurses pursuing an RN to BSN degree have many options--from traditional classroom instruction to online RN to BSN degrees. Many degree programs enable students to maintain a nursing career while pursuing an education.

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics notes that a BSN can equip nurses with a broad range of skills, such as communication and leadership, and prepare RNs for a wider range of careers than other degree options. As nursing becomes more complex and specialized, those with a broader education may be better prepared to advance their careers.
